Cedar of Lebanon Sculpture

This has been far and away the largest project I've embarked upon.
I located a extraordinarily big (Twelve & a Half tonne) piece of Cedar of Lebanon wood - it required a 50 tonne crane and a 30 tonne low-loader to transport it.

I designed and built a reinforced concrete plinth for the sculpture to lie upon. This was hugely time consuming, as it had to be resilient enough to last many years without shifting and able to withstand varied adverse weather conditions.

The eventual design morphed from the natural grain & configuration of the wood and the raised concrete platform gave a sense of the log floating above ground level.
I went out of my way to ensure the finished sculpture did not 'look' like an identifiable object. I wanted it to be an abstract piece, that highlighted the natural features of this quite unique lump of timber.
