ELM WOOD TABLE

Click on photos for greater detail

I was lucky enough to get hold of a large piece of Elm. It originated from the Brighton area and is 8 feet long, by 3.5 feet wide and 5 inches thick.

This series of pictures show show how it transformed from a raw, rough cut, slab, through to the finished polished table.

Whilst working on it, I discovered a small section of bark in the middle of the timber. Rather than remove it, it became an unusual & quite unique feature of the tabletop.

At 5 inches, it was a pretty thick slice of wood, weighing over 200Kgs. I therefore reduced the bulky appearance, by beveling the edges.
